When I scroll through various travel blogs, I always realize that on my packing list are more makeup products than on everyone elses. It seems like long term travelers prefer the natural look and leave their cosmetics back home.
From the beginning on it was clear to me: I won’t be happy with only a powder and a mascara in my make-up bag. I love doing my make up and I don’t want to abstain from it when traveling. However, not trying to pack your whole make-up collection makes sense on a backpacking trip 😀
Prior to our departure, I thought about how I could reduce my travel makeup bag to the bare essentials. The result is the below-mentioned listing.
I can particularly recommend my Contour and Blush Palette by Sleek! Since our journey I’m a huge fan of this palette, because it is super compact and it combines three products in one. The mirror is even big enough to do your make-up. Also the blush looks so pretty on bronzed skin.
After a few weeks of traveling, I could already understand why cosmetics on packing lists are hardly mentioned. Especially when you are traveling to a warm country, makeup is just a dead weight. At 30 degrees celsius or more, sweat was running all over my face. Even a good makeup has no chance of staying on your face. In Germany, I put on makeup almost every day. In Australia I didn’t use make-up on 80 percent of the days. Most female travelers that I met haven’t worn any make-up since weeks and they feel good. As soon as your skin gets tanned, you’ll already look fresher.
However, I am satisfied with my choice of travel make-up! The products I listed weigh around 400 gram and they are worth carrying them. Although I didn’t put on make-up that often, I was happy that I had it for special occasions. I mean, who doesn’t want to look good on travel pictures? 🙂
In the end, every woman has to decide for herself, how much weight the cosmetics are worth. Before our journey, I would have never thought that I could be so happy with so little make-up.
